How to Pack Your Car for a Cross Country Trip

If you enjoy traveling across the country and visiting different places, doing so by car is one of the most economical ways. It also means you can easily have a lot of fun, meet new people, and find different sights. You are bound to end up with memorable pictures, and make a few friends along the way. But when you get ready for such an adventure, what are a few must have items that you should bring along. If you are making the trip in your trusty car, stock up on these basics. It doesn’t matter if you have a new or used car, you should still be ready for anything and everything that life throws at you.

A Sleeping Bag

Even if you plan on staying at hotels, in a caravan, lodges, or other places that accommodate travelers, it doesn’t hurt to have a sleeping bag on hand. If you need to park somewhere and rest for a bit, having a sleeping bag can make all the difference when you are planning on traveling long distances. It also has the added advantage of giving you somewhere to sleep, if the hotel is booked for the night and there is nowhere else to go.

Comfortable Footwear

If you are going to be driving for long periods of time, then having comfortable footwear is a must. It is better to have your feet in something soft, that is still easy enough for you to drive in, rather than trying to make a long drive in boots or other types of shoes that do not allow for much movement. Sneakers are the best bet for many people, although you can bring a few pairs, or even have slippers, if you feel that will make a long drive more bearable.

Plenty of Drinks

Your choice of drinks is totally up to you. It is understandable if you need a soft drink, coffee, or some other source of caffeine, although you should make sure that there is plenty of water for you to drink as well. It is important to stay hydrated, since the car will already be warm. If you feel you need a pick-me-up, a caffeinated drink is the way to go, although you should balance it out with plenty of water along the way (and some rest stops too, so you feel comfortable and can stretch your legs).

When planning a trip, be sure to have everything you need to ensure you are safe and comfortable, no matter where you go. A sleeping bag can provide you with alternative sleeping arrangements if a hotel does not have room. Comfortable footwear means you can drive long distances without worrying about what effect it will have on your feet. Finally, make sure you are drinking plenty of water during your trip. Caffeine always helps too, but water is important so you do not get dehydrated or go without refreshing yourself for too long, which is easy to do on long trips.
