The Japanese Laundry brand is due to hit the UK market this coming Spring/Summer season, and they have sent us a sample of one of their Harajuko Showgirls Tees to cast a beady eye over.
The aim is simple, to produce the perfect T to wear with your favourite Japanese Selvedge denims, and they aint doing a bad job.
The material is pretty heavyweight Cotton, which helps the T to sit well when you are wearing it, and it is also nice and soft to the touch making it comfy to wear. The finishing off around the seams is good with no annoying loose ends hanging around, and in general I must say I am impressed.
The T Shirt features a Harajuko Showgirls print on the front, with what looks set to be a brand standard care instructions print to the lower left on the back. There is also a small Red Half Moon to the bottom left side of the T, which we suspect is to represent the rising Sun on the Japanese flag?
The only downside we can find (and please bare in mind that this is only a sample piece) is that some of the screenprinting on the Tees is a bit off in places, but we are sure that the guys will have these issues sorted come launch time.
All in all we think this is a pretty solid effort and looks like a brand which could be set to go places, maybe somebody to give Superdry a run for their money given time?
Check out the Japanese Laundry range for yourself, and get ready for the launch this Summer.
