If you have ever wondered what the clothing of the future is going to look like, the answer is in the past! Sounds a bit crazy we know but read on………
Picture the scene, it’s the mid 80s and a group of fashion conscious youths are gathering on a street corner in Bradford (me being one of them!) each sporting the same mix of brands. Adidas, Levis, FILA, Tacchini, Lacoste and Nike were the order of the day, and if you wore anything other than these names you just weren’t accepted as ‘one of the lads’.
Fast forward a quarter of a century and guess what? The clothing we were sporting back then is probably just as fashionable nowadays, if not more so.
So join us on a trip ‘BACK TO THE FUTURE’ as we put together a modern day version of our hot 80s outfit!!

1 :- SERGIO TACCHINI TRACK TOP is a must have for our retro wardrobe, timeless stying means it looks just as hot today as ever it did. The perfect foil for any pair of denims, set off perfectly by the contrast White stripes across the chest, make it an absolute, stonewall classic.
2 :- LACOSTE CAIMAN POLO SHIRT Will these ever go out of fashion? Never mind the fact that it has been over a quarter of a century, this was the only polo shirt ever likely to make it onto the list. The two button placket and iconic Crocodile logo, combined with the perfect fit of Lacoste polos, mean they will be around for a long time to come.
3 :- LEVIS 501s Probably the most left field choice of the lot, and facing the stiffest competition due to the huge choice of denims available in the modern age. However, back in the day, if you didn’t have that Red Tab on the back of your Jeans you may as well have stayed at home.
4 :- ADIDAS ORIGINALS LA TRAINERS The hardest choice of the lot!! There were just so many classic styles to choose from Sambas, ROMs, Trimm Trabs and Gazelles all provided stiff competition but ultimately the LA Trainer won through. I will never forget the amazement that you could actually change the comfort of your trainers just by switching around the configuration of the coloured bars in the sole. There were only three of them but somehow I seemed to find about 300 different combinations!! Classic.
5 :- NIKE SOCKS A simple choice, the socks were always Nike, and they just had to be White! Any other colour or brand and you were setting yourself up as a figure of ridicule.
6 :- ADIDAS AIRLINER BAG Lastly, you obviously need a decent bag for footie practice and the Airliner is the only candidate as it was the first (that I remember anyway!) with a seperate zipped compartment for your sweaty kit after training. In subsequent years the Head bag would have given it a run for its money but ultimately the Airliner gets the vote.
So, there you have it, the ultimate 80s outfit that looks just at home today as it did back then. Proof indeed that if you want to see the fashion of the future, you have got to look at the fashion of the past!!
