They’re a staple item of any guy’s wardrobe: practical, comfortable, affordable and as stylish as you make them, jeans are the workhorse of daily menswear. Whether you’re buying Voi jeans at Scott’s Menswear or just grabbing an everyday pair from the high street, it pays to put some thought into what you’ll be wearing them with and whether they suit your body shape.
From slim to straight to boot cut to baggy, there’s a whole lot of styles and fits out there to choose from – here’s a quick guide to the most common types:
Straight cut
Considered the ‘classic’ type of jeans, these should sit at your natural waistline and taper off slightly at the ankle. They’re the all-round style that go with nearly everything, although if you’re intent on looking less casual, it’s probably best to go with a more specific fit.
Boot cut
A more modern style of jeans, boot cuts taper outwards slightly from the knee and, while they’re designed for wearing with chunkier boots or shoes, they’re versatile enough to go with most footwear. Boot cut jeans have a rugged-yet-classy appearance that make them great for dressing up with a jacket or blazer.
Wide leg
The spiritual successor to the flares of the 70s and the baggies of the 90s, wide leg jeans are definitely more skater cool than office wear. They’re great with a T-shirt and trainers, but larger men will find better-fitting jeans more flattering as wide legs can add bulk to your frame.
Colours
When it comes to colours, darker generally means dressier. If you’re pairing your jeans with a shirt and jacket, opt for a dark blue or blue-black wash, although a little fading here and there doesn’t hurt. For everyday wear, the ‘original blue’ jeans are looking a bit dated nowadays – either go with medium-dark, or alternatively faded, stonewashed shades for a more relaxed look.
Shirt tucked or not?
No for T-shirts and polo necks; a definite yes for button-down and dress shirts.

The Nudie Jeans brand was created by Swedish designer Maria Eriksson,who had previously worked for Lee, back in 2011. The brand is renowned for its denim washes and the label has chosen to use more expensive, selvedge denim from Japanese textile factories. If you love premium denim, Nudie jeans are for you!
Nudie jeans age very distinctively, the longer you wear the jeans, the more character and attitude they acquire. They can be shaped to your lifestyle and become like a second skin.
Nudie highlight the fact that their jeans should be ‘worn in’ for best results. This normally consists of wearing them every day for at least six months (before washing them) simply rubbing them with a damp cloth to remove stains or hanging out in damp weather to get rid of the smell – perfect jeans for a student! Nudie state that “If you wash the jeans too early, the indigo just bleeds out over the whole garment, producing an even, dark indigo colour”
They don’t only offer jeans but a way of thinking, which is fuelled by the traditions of denim and the characteristics of the fabric itself. All Nudie products are made from organic cotton and come in branded recycled paper packaging.
