The year 1996 saw the introduction to the world of the revolutionary G Star Elwood Jeans, bringing with them the concept of 3D denim. Pierre Morisset, head designer at G Star, found his inspiration when he saw a poor rain soaked motorcyclist at a motorway service station. The bikers Jeans had been permanently moulded into his riding position by heat from the motorcycle’s cylinders combined with a mix of rain, sun and oil.
The design of the G-Star Elwood fuses the articulated knee design from motocross trousers with the functionality of work wear. This simple yet sophisticated design, has helped G-Star map out a modern approach to denim.
Fifteen years on and G-Star celebrates the impact made by that groundbreaking design with the introduction of the Motor 5620 program, a raw and tough collection of denim and denim-complementary garments for Autumn/Winter 2011. All of the pieces in the range feature traces back to the motorcyclist inspiration of the original G-Star Elwood.
